KONIN SITE

Konin, a city in Wielkopolska Voivodeship in central Poland, is located 100 km from Poznań, 219 km from Warsaw, and 120 km from Łódź, with a population of around 71,000. It lies in the heart of the Mogilno-Łódź Basin, one of Poland’s most promising regions for geothermal energy use in heating. Research and drilling have already confirmed the area’s high geothermal potential and its capacity for further utilisation of geothermal waters. The URGENT project seeks to harness a porous sandstone reservoir from the Lower Jurassic period, situated in a faulted area, to supply heat to the local district heating network. Additionally, a deeper Triassic reservoir shows promise, though more data is needed. New seismic studies will help assess its potential for geothermal energy.

What will be done?

  • 2D seismic survey to test and validate the seismic acquisition technologies, methods and data (post-)processing techniques.
  • Developed AI & ML methods/techniques will be tested: AI models will be trained to recognise faults and finally represent the faults in 2D.
