Europe urgently needs to decarbonise its heating sector, and geothermal energy offers a sustainable solution by providing clean heat in urban areas as an alternative to fossil fuels. The URGENT project is tackling the challenges of geothermal exploration with innovative, low-impact technologies specifically designed for urban environments. These cutting-edge solutions will be tested in Belgium, Poland, and Hungary, enhancing reservoir characterisation and significantly reducing exploration costs. By leveraging AI and machine learning, the project will optimise data analysis and well placement, extending plant lifespans and boosting revenue
